Distant Echoes brings colour, nostalgia, and celebration to Armagh!

New art exhibition by Mark Magee opens in The Market Place Theatre and Arts Centre Armagh.

The evocative new art exhibition ‘Distant Echoes’ by acclaimed local artist Mark Magee officially opened on Friday, May 15, at The Market Place in a night that blended art, nostalgia, and celebration.

The launch coincided with Magee’s birthday, adding an extra layer of festivity to the evening. Friends, family, and art lovers gathered to toast the occasion, with glasses raised in the theatre’s gallery space. In a nod to his youth as a proud ‘mod’, several of Magee’s friends arrived on their gleaming Vespas, parked outside the venue and drawing smiles from passers-by.

Blending atmospheric landscapes with abstract textures, Distant Echoes explores themes of memory, place, and the passage of time. Magee’s work, known for its emotional depth and striking use of colour, invites viewers to reflect on the connections between past and present.

Each piece is inspired by fragments of memory — moments that linger, fade, and resurface in unexpected ways. Perhaps visitors might find their own stories within the work.

The exhibition will run until July 4, 2026, from 930am – 430pm with free entry for all visitors.
