CBD & Hemp Store – a small independent business in heart of Armagh

We are a small independent business based in Abbey Lane, right in the bustling heart of Armagh!

The CBD & Hemp Store Family is made up of 8 staff and volunteers.

Our staff members are Martin Kelly from the political party and cannabis pressure group, CISTA (Cannabis Is Safer Than Alcohol) Martin stood as a candidate for Upper Bann during the 2016 local election and gained over 800 votes.

Also from CISTA Upper Bann, Jasmine Graham (Hemptress). John Rivers runs our day to day operations and finances and in charge of marketing Peader Robinson, founder of hugely popular activist group ‘Legalise Cannabis – Northern Ireland’ which has just shy of 23,000 followers and counting.

Our apprentice store manager is local busker, Jamie Cullen, who is full of friendly advice and knowledge, plus he can brew a mean hemp tea!

Jonjo Mooney one of our part time volunteers who is all ready to lend a hand keeping up with ever increasing production demands and an invaluable source of cannabinoid knowledge.

We are all cannabis activists and campaigners at heart, and we aim to not only to provide quality CBD and hemp products, but also to educate and normalise the use of this incredibly beneficial plant in our community.

(The First Shop!)

We’re a team of local people who aim to work with local suppliers where we can. We stock honey from a local farm infused with organic, gluten free hemp.

We source our edibles locally from a wonderfully talented local lady Julie Halls-wood and her business – Cannabakes NI. Our Hemp at Home mastercraft whizz kid is also none other than another local Armagh lady, Annamarie Cartmill, with rucksacks of skill.

We created and produce our “B’leaf”, “Relief”, “Release” and “Hemptress” range’s right here in Armagh – locally sourced packaging and labels too. We now stock shelled hemp seeds (sometimes called hemp hearts) from our lifelong local bread makers.

Small businesses are at the core of the local economy. They account for 99.9% of all businesses in Northern Ireland and employ more people than all larger businesses and the entire public sector – combined!

With the hemp business booming around the world we hope it is only a matter of time until we can source our hemp locally, too. Local farmers – pay attention! The sheer size of the hemp market is staggering.

The total domestic value of hemp retail products sold in 2015 was $573 million, according to the Hemp Industries Association. Our store’s opening is part of a much larger nationwide trend. According to Forbes Magazine, the cannabidiol (CBD) market is expected to become a billion-dollar industry by 2020.

It’s no secret that the CBD and hemp market has been expanding rapidly, but the Cannabis Trades Association UK (CTAUK) has now revealed that the use of CBD oil in the UK has doubled in a year.

CTAUK, who oversee the cannabidiol and hemp market, have published a study revealing astonishing figures. 250,000 people are now using CBD oil to maintain and support their health. They also added that the number of users is up from 125,000 last year which means there are approximately around 1,000 new users to CBD every single month!

B’leaf

Our hemp infused tea and coffee range was our first line of products produced in store and have been a huge hit. Whether you prefer hemp coffee or one of our caffeine free teas, it’ll be healthier than your usual cuppa!

Coffee – Our CBD & Hemp Store Coffee infusion is a premium, full flavoured blend of the finest roasted ground coffee beans (Arabica 90% Robusta 10%) from South America, Africa and India and infused with hemp bud, leaf and seeds. It’s a great way to enjoy the taste of coffee while taking advantage of the great nutrient qualities of the hemp seed.

Refreshing – Lemongrass, liquorice roots, ginger roots, peppermint leaves, lemon peels, black pepper. A fresh, clean taste with a peppery bite! These ingredients combined together couldn’t produce something more refreshing, all adding their power and bite. All that flavour is naturally delivered with top quality ingredients

Rooibos – The rooibos herb is believed to have relaxing effects, and is commonly given to young children in South Africa where the herb comes from. Great for those who haven’t got a taste for strong herbal infusions but want a substitute to tea. It has a mild sweet taste and can be drunk with milk. It is also believed to contain protective antioxidants like tea but without the caffeine.

Balancing – Cinnamon pieces, cardamom, liquorice roots, coriander, fennel, ginger roots, rose petals. This blend was put together according to Ayurveda principles. Ayurveda means science of life and is one of India’s traditional system of preventive medicine, based on the harmony and balance of body, mind and spirit. This blend is a true invitation to relax when feeling intense or frustrated. It is sweet, spicy, warm and smooth, but still refreshing and light at the same time.

Olive Leaf – A very clean, light, mild infusion. Does not taste of olives but has a slight savoury note to it. It was used by ancient Egyptians as a daily drink to protect against viruses. Olives leaves are believed to have defensive properties against colds and flu and may reduce blood sugar and blood pressure.

Release

Release is our range of CBD capsules infused with coconut oil, black pepper and turmeric, and they come as a 60 pack of 20mg capsules. They are packed with powerful natural ingredients! Firstly, the cannabinoids in whole plant hemp is biochemically rich in a variety of compounds, that all work in synergy with eachother. Next, coconut oil – it is considered one of the best fuels for healthy brain function and fuel. Piperine, an active compound in black pepper, inhibits an enzyme that breaks down the calming neurotransmitter serotonin, according to recent studies, making it potentially useful in the treatment of some mood disorders.

The enzyme also degrades melatonin, a hormone your brain produces that controls your body’s day/night cycles. Many recent studies found that curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, may be as effective as Prozac in treating depression, plus a whole host of health problems. Turmeric has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, anticancer, antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, antiparasitic and neuroprotective activities.

Turmeric also raises the levels of serotonin and dopamine in the brain, two neurotransmitters responsible for feelings of happiness, curbing depression and anxiety, and increasing overall emotional well-being. We’ve had a lot of positive feedback about these capsules particularly from sufferers of anxiety/depression and fibromyalgia.

Hemptress

Hemptress is a range of CBD infused topicals made with all natural ingredients, from fragrance free balm balm designed for sensitive or irritated skin to a cayenne pepper infused muscle rub to soothe aches and pains. I was always fascinated by lotions and potions, and found that more often than not, natural ingredient were more nurturing for skin than some of the more conventional treatments. Basically the less harsh chemical ingredients the better.

While CBD seems to offer healing benefits when ingested almost any way, for some types of chronic pain, skin conditions, and other localised problems, topical applications allow users to go right to the source. Topical CBD can also work faster than other
ingestion methods , since it doesn’t have to travel through the digestive system first. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), CBD cannabinoids are anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-spasmodic, and they enhance circulation and cellular regeneration. People who use CBD to relieve pain include those with chronic, deep-seated pain stemming from inflammatory conditions, as well as those with neuropathic pain, muscle pain or post-surgical pain.

Cannabakes NI

I first became aware of the benefits of CBD and Hemp in 2015. At the time I had been 7 years in the Cake Artistry business and wanted to incorporate my knowledge of CBD and Hemp into edible format and so in 2017 CannabakesNI was born.

CBD edibles have several benefits, while it takes some time for CBD edibles to take effect the result is relief that lasts much longer.

In a CBD edible the active compound is combined with other foodstuffs, this means that the CBD is released slowly over a longer period of time as the food is digested thus resulting in a long lasting CBD experience.

CBD is a Cannabinoid that comes from the hemp varieties of the cannabis plant and is used as a medicinal treatment for a wide variety of pains, disorders, symptoms and overall wellbeing. Here at CannabakesNI we have brought together our love of producing handmade mouthwatering products with the benefits of CBD to create a delicious experience for our customers.

Hemp At Home

Hemp at home is a little business that grew from my love of sewing and being crafty. There is very little awareness of hemp textiles and fabric blends. What I’m striving to do is bring bespoke handmade practical items that can be used every day into people’s lives. Where they will be helping the environment and bringing to the forefront the importance of this one little plant. It can be incorporated into everyday life in so many ways. Hemp at home is only a tiny fraction of one of the possibilities that can come from hemp. Hemp fiber is one of the strongest and most durable of all natural textile fibers.

Hemp is also naturally resistant to mold and ultraviolet light. Due to the porous nature of the fiber, hemp is more water absorbent, and will dye and retain its color better than any fabric including cotton. The possibilities are endless!

All products made at Hemp at Home are all handmade bespoke pieces. They are all similar, but because they are all individually handmade they will all be slightly different. Hemp will soon be in the forefront in many textiles, soon it will be in everyone’s homes.

The CBD and Hemp Family is growing fast all over Northern Ireland, Cista NI party leader Barry Brown runs the popular ‘Hemporium’ in Omagh and most recently Statera CBD in Lurgan.

A big thank you to everyone who has supported us and our extended CBD and Hemp Family so far on our journey, it’s been a real pleasure to meet so many friendly, open people who are looking to educate themselves on this incredibly beneficial plant and trying to find a better quality of life through the use of CBD.
