Bus company planning on adding express route into Armagh

There could be a new express route in and out of Armagh city

A Northern Ireland bus company is planning on introducing a number of express routes from Belfast – including into Armagh city.

At present Translink run nine express routes, however, Hannon Coach, are aiming to increase the competition by applying to the Department of infrastructure for the licences.

They want to run express routes to locations including Newcastle, Armagh, Cookstown, Dungannon, Enniskillen, Omagh and Coleraine.

A decision has yet to be made on the application and any potential addition to the Armagh service remains subject to a favourable thumbs up.

However, the Department have already rejected a previous application for Hannon Coach to run a Belfast – Derry/Londonderry service.

The company says the planned £10m investment could bring up to 70 jobs.

Owen McLaughlin, group marketing manager of Hannon Coach, told the Belfast Telegraph they are applying for the licences because they “have taken a look at the market” and there is a clear “gap” in it.

“This was always our plan, to provide Northern Ireland with the express network it needs,” he said.
