Booker Prize-winning author John Banville comes to Armagh City Library for Book Week NI

One of Ireland’s most celebrated writers will visit Armagh City Library this week as part of Book Week NI 2026.

Booker Prize-winning author John Banville will appear at the library on Thursday, October 22 at 3pm, joining Martin Doyle, Books Editor of The Irish Times, for a special afternoon of conversation about books, writing and a literary career spanning more than five decades.

Banville, whose acclaimed works include The Sea, will discuss his latest novel, Venetian Vespers, and the ideas and inspiration behind his writing.

The conversation will also draw on Martin Doyle’s experience of interviewing some of Ireland’s leading literary figures, brought together in his new book, A Hosting: Interviews with Irish Writers 1991–2026.

The event is part of Book Week NI, which runs from 19–25 October and is a joint initiative between Libraries NI and BBC Northern Ireland, celebrating books, reading and storytelling through events across Northern Ireland.

Booking is essential. To reserve a place, contact Armagh City Library on 028 3752 4072 or email armagh.library@librariesni.org.uk.
