
The arrest of a man in Armagh city centre today (Tuesday) is being treated by police as a “racially motivated hate crime”.
Police received a report of ongoing anti-social behaviour in Armagh city centre at around 11.50am on Tuesday June 17.
Officers attended the scene and located a disruptive man shouting in the Thomas Street area.
He was arrested on suspicion of disorderly behaviour and two counts of assault on police, and remains in custody at this time.
Due to the nature of the slurs heard by those who reported the incident, the matter is being treated as a racially-motivated hate crime.
Enquiries are ongoing, and police would appeal to anyone with information to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 619 of 17/06/25.
