Arrest after man attempted to choke and then punched victim in Armagh property

Police have made an arrest in connection with an assault and criminal damage caused to a house in Armagh.

Sergeant Bigger said: “A report was received at approximately 7.10pm on Monday, November 24 that a man, aged in his 50s, had been assaulted in the Brookhill Crescent area.

“It’s understood the suspect entered the property and grabbed the victim round the neck – attempting to choke him.

“He continued to be aggressive and punched him – before picking up a metal bar and swinging it at him, striking him to his arm and hand.

“He left the scene and returned a short time later – throwing a plant pot through the window, and causing damage to the front door.”

Sergeant Bigger continued: “Officers attended the scene and attempted to detain the suspect who resisted arrest, and was verbally abusive towards police.

“The 34-year-old was subsequently arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including common assault, criminal damage, resisting police and disorderly behaviour.

“He remains in custody at this time as enquiries continue. Anyone who witnessed what happened is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 1325 24/11/25.”
