An Armagh barber is celebrating after once again being shortlisted in two categories in the prestigious Northern Ireland Hair and Beauty Awards.

Mark McSherry – proprietor of The Barber SRSB at Lower English Street in the city – said he is “thrilled” to be in the running.

He is one of 10 in the running for the title of ‘Barber of the Year’.

And he is also chasing the top title of ‘Men’s Stylish of the Year’.

He is the only County Armagh nominee in each category – with the majority concentrated on the ‘big cities’ – and this is his fourth consecutive year to have been nominated.

The awards are a leading celebration of the hair specialists and salons that work hard to leave the nation glowing.

According to the organisers, the response from the public was overwhelming and the full list with finalists has now been complied based on the number of votes received.

The glamorous 2019 ceremony will take place on Sunday, July 14, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Belfast.

It will welcome meritorious contenders who have “gone above and beyond in the hair salon with their talent and dedication to the industry”.

Mark is looking forward to the ceremony.

He told Armagh I : “It’s great to make the shortlist four years running in two categories – Barber of the Year and Stylist of the year.

“I don’t believe there is any ‘best barbers’ of Northern Ireland or anywhere for that matter – you’re only as good as your last cut and you’re only the best to the clients that keep you in business by offering them guaranteed satisfaction every time they cross the threshold of your shop.

“But it’s always ,good ,and to be the only one the last few years outside of the big cities means I’m doing something right or people wouldn’t vote for me in the first place.

“No matter who cuts under the banner of The Barber – and I’ve lately refreshed staff since Christmas – I stand over that everyone that walks out the door, they return in a winner.

“Thanks to all that helped at this stage by voting – best or not it’s the taking part and means The Barber is at least popular out there!”

The glitzy awards seek to acknowledge and honour the tireless individuals, freelancers, teams and salons, whose sole aim is to provide their customers with impeccable services and treatments, leaving them look and more importantly, feel fantastic.

The awards will be all about hair and will also celebrate the breadth of talent and style that flow in Northern Ireland, as well as the efforts and commitment of the very best professionals who ensure their customers always receive excellent services and innovative treatments that meet their clients’ needs and demands.

Creative Oceanic launched the official Hair and Beauty Awards in Northern Ireland five years ago.

The English, Scottish, Welsh, Irish, London, Toronto and British Columbia Hair & Beauty Awards have all been successfully established over the years, increasing the brand’s international appeal and recognition.

A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Hair and Beauty Awards 2019 said: “These awards have become a stable event over the years and endeavour to showcase those who have shown great commitment, professionalism, creativity and care for the client.

“The event promise to be an inspiring night reflecting the excellence in the hair industry. The awards also aim to remark the hair sector’s strong presence, profitability and contributions to the national revenue and reward the champions who managed to stand out amongst the rest.

“We can’t wait to welcome our guests and deliver another enjoyable event. We wish all the finalists the best of luck.”
