Armagh SRC to host ‘pop-up’ sustainable shopping event to benefit of Malawi Projects

Southern Regional College Armagh

A sustainability “Pop Up” shop is being held at the Armagh Conference Suite, Southern Regional College (SRC) Armagh Campus.

On May 27, 2026 from 10am to 3pm, the event will offer visitors the chance to browse and purchase a fantastic range of pre-loved furniture, clothing, bric-a-brac, household items, and much more.

The event promotes sustainable shopping while helping to raise funds for The Malawi Projects International Ltd, an organisation dedicated to supporting communities in Malawi through practical, long-term development programmes.

The Malawi Projects works in partnership with local communities using a “hand up, not a hand out” approach. Their mission is to help people become self-sustainable and reduce dependency on aid by supporting programmes focused on education, healthcare, and economic development.

The organisation funds medical teams that travel to isolated areas to provide lifesaving medical care. They also contribute towards medicines and transport costs, ensuring healthcare can reach remote communities where it is needed most.

Education is another key focus of their work. The charity supports both children and adults by funding literacy teachers, nursery education, and a full-time Education Manager. They also provide support for vulnerable children by helping to fund school fees and educational resources, ensuring continued access to learning opportunities.

Through their sustainable family farming scheme, individuals are offered a £500 interest-free loan to establish farming projects. Once repaid, the funds are passed on to another recipient, creating a cycle of support that helps families achieve long-term food security.

The organisation also provides interest-free loans to co-operatives, helping local groups establish and grow businesses. Once profitable, repayments are reinvested to support additional individuals, families, and community enterprises.

This event offers an opportunity for the local community to support sustainability, shop affordably, and contribute to life-changing work in Malawi — truly reflecting the organisation’s guiding principle: “A hand up, not a hand out.”
