Armagh scouts raise funds for charity to mark 90th anniversary

Mandy McParland and Danny Hagan of 1st Armagh Scouts present a cheque to Eleanor McKenna of PIPS Hope and Support

This year marked the 90th anniversary of 1st Armagh Scout Group, an organisation that has seen hundreds of children, young people and leaders pass through its ranks since 1933.

To celebrate the milestone, three special fundraising events had been arranged, with all the money raised being split evenly between two charities – Mary’s Meals and suicide prevention charity PIPs.

The first fundraising event, a quiz and raffle, was held in February raising £470 for each of the charities.

Followed by a coffee morning held on Saturday April 22nd to coincide with the opening of a Scout exhibition featuring memorabilia from over many years.

The final event occurred on Saturday April 29 when the scouts held an afternoon parade through the streets of Armagh and later that evening, ended their celebrations with music, dinner and a raffle which raised a further amount for both charities.

The organising committee were pleased to welcome representatives to the Scout Den from Mary’s Meals and PIPs on Monday June 19 to present each of them with cheques for £1500.

1st Armagh Scouts would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who contributed in recent months to their fundraising and to those who joined with them in celebrating their 90 years of Scouting.
