Armagh ‘menace’ jailed for harassing ex-partner and threatening to smash her windows

An Armagh man who harassed his ex-partner and threatened to smash her windows has been jailed for six months.

Giedrius Zukauskas, of no-fixed-abode, appeared via videolink from Maghaberry before Armagh Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Newry Courthouse on Tuesday.

The 52-year-old was charged with two counts of criminal damage, threats to damage property, harassment and persistent improper use of communications.

The court heard that on August 19, 2024, police attended an address in Armagh following reports of a domestic police.

The victim alleged that she had asked her ex partner, Zukauskas, to leave her address on August 16, after which a number of incidents occurred.

She claimed that Zukauskas had broken the cap of her oil tank and spat on her windows on August 17.

On August 19, he is alleged to have followed her to work, called her names, and threatened to break her windows.

While police were present with the victim, Zukauskas called her repeatedly and sent her a number of messages in Lithuanian.

The victim said that one of the messages referred to the police being at her home, suggesting that he was watching her.

Speaking to the court, Zukauskas’ defence lawyer said that his client’s recent relevant convictions related to the same victim.

He said that they had been together for a period of time before splitting up.

The defence added that the victim had rented a room to him and stated, that when Zukauskas was drinkingm he became “a bit of a menace”.

The court was told that Zukauskas, who had spent six months on remand in custody, planned to return to Lithuania upon his release.

District Judge Anne Marshall imposed a total sentence of six months in custody, alongside a full no-contact restraining order for a period of two years.

Zukauskas was also ordered to pay a £25 offender levy.
