Armagh man with ‘addiction to pornography’ to be sentenced over indecent child imagery

An Armagh man who pleaded guilty to numerous possession of indecent child imagery charges is to be sentenced on Friday.

Steven Cummings, 40, of Gaol Square, is charged with six counts of possessing an indecent image, possession of a prohibited image and possession of an extreme pornographic image.

Cummings’ defence counsel appeared before Newry Crown Court earlier today (Monday), however,  sentencing was adjourned until Friday to allow for the preparation of a psychiatric report.

Cummings’ defence solicitor commented: “I think the fact that he hasn’t been in a relationship for ten years strikes because this offending goes back some ten years ago. It’s eleven to eight years old this offending and that will come in around that time when he ceased all intimate relationships.

“It seems to be a preoccupation and addiction to pornography. It seems to be the fact that this was illegal became a thrill for him and that just increased his offending.”

His Honour Judge Gordon Kerr QC said that sentence would be passed on Friday once all of the issues had been considered, with the defendant to be released on bail in the interim.
