An Armagh man will take on the gruelling challenge of the Dublin Marathon later this month in memory of his beloved father, who passed away unexpectedly last year.
On Sunday, October 26, Darren Lennon – son of the late Malachy Lennon – will lace up his running shoes in a bid to complete the full 26.2-mile marathon while raising vital funds for the Irish Heart Foundation.
Darren’s run is a personal tribute to his father, who tragically died from an undiagnosed heart condition in November 2024.
Darren explained. “On November 23, it will be a year since dad passed. It still feels like yesterday he went to work as normal. His absence is just as raw now as it was then. He is spoken about daily by us all, and we want to keep his memory and legacy alive.”
Darren hopes his fundraising efforts will help support families facing similar circumstances and contribute to preventing tragic outcomes caused by heart conditions.
“Times are tough financially, but if you can spare anything it would be much appreciated,” he added.
Malachy Lennon was a familiar and much-loved figure in Armagh, known for his work with Callan Taxis on Thomas Street and his passion for local GAA and road bowls.
Always generous and full of humour, Malachy’s sudden passing last year sent shockwaves through the community, particularly within the Blackwatertown and Tullysaran area.
Darren hopes his marathon effort will have a positive impact for others who have experienced similar heartache. Whether or not it has a positive impact on his legs remains very much in doubt!
