A man and woman from Armagh have appeared in court on two child cruelty charges.
The pair, who cannot be named in order to protect the identity of the child, appeared before Armagh Magistrates’ Court – sitting in Newry – on Tuesday.
The pair, both in their 20s, appeared for the purposes of a preliminary enquiry – the legal process during which a case is referred to the higher court.
The pair both confirmed their names and dates of births.
While none of the facts of the case were outlined, the court heard the incident is alleged to have occurred on dates between January 10 and January 13 this year.
The prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.
Defence counsel made no contrary submissions.
The pair will next appear in Newry Crown Court for arraignment on November 7.
They were released on their own bail of £500.
