Armagh Lions back in action with signature motorsport event at Loughgall Country Park

Armagh Lions Club Festival of Motorsport

Armagh Lions Club are back in action this Saturday, May 20 at Loughgall Country Park for their signature Festival of Motorsport event, now a longstanding annual fixture with the exception of two absences due to Covid restrictions.

With the date slightly later in May than usual given the Coronation weekend and other popular features across Northern Ireland, the club are hosting a relaxing family day showcasing motoring excellence down through the years, including vintage, classic, rally, performance, and speciality on display and all set in the glorious Loughgall Country Park, nestled in the heart of Armagh.

In addition, Show & Shine ‘Glow in the Park’ makes a welcome return for all the those determined to present their vehicles in pristine condition while competing for fantastic prizes.

Three groups are being supported this year which are NI Air Ambulance, Lough Neagh Rescue and with Lions Clubs around the world having a particular association with sight issues, a third is Angel Eyes.

This locally based charity works to ensure every blind and partially sighted child and young person in Northern Ireland has equal access to everything they need to flourish.

Armagh Lions President Iain Wright said: “We have a tremendous relationship with Loughgall Country Park and the amazing staff who we simply cannot thank enough. This year there will be wide range of motoring excellence on display including our static show of all things vintage, classic and performance as well as the sparkle of Show & Shine.

“Our speciality feature is a celebration of the Ford Anglia, with 2023 marking 75 years since it first production. We also welcome some dynamic action from Northern Ireland Lawnmower Racing Association who are making their debut appearance at our event.”

Iain added: “Barry Scott is back with his Digger Challenge, which is the ultimate in precision control and NI Fire & Rescue Service will carry out a demonstration of their emergency cut-out procedures when attending serious road traffic collisions.”

Meanwhile Mark Kelly of JPCC, organisers of the Show & Shine event, said: “We are looking forward to this family-friendly day with something for car enthusiasts of all ages and those who appreciate a great day out in the scenic setting of Loughgall Country Park.

“Pack a picnic, grab a camera and enjoy the scenic walks, relaxed atmosphere and cars on display, and all in the knowledge you are helping local charities and causes.”

Iain concluded: “As ever, we are once again indebted to our supporters, sponsors, Loughgall Country Park staff and the wonderful members of the public who are the reason we exist. So join Armagh Lions for a great day out while helping to support others in need. If we each do a little, we can all achieve a lot.”
