An Armagh learner driver who was caught by police driving unaccompanied and over the legal alcohol limit has been fined £350.
Agir Semov, of Ogle Street, was also disqualified from driving for 12 months at Armagh Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Newry Courthouse.
The 32-year-old, who did not appear in court, was charged with driving with excess alcohol in breath, being an unaccompanied L driver and driving with no L plates displayed.
The court heard on November 11 this year, police on mobile patrol in Armagh observed a vehicle driving slowly and swerving on Victoria Street.
Police stopped the vehicle and spoke with the defendant, when they smelled intoxicating liquor and noticed his eyes were glazed.
He showed police his driver’s licence, which was a provisional licence. There were also no L plates displayed on the vehicle.
The defendant also failed a preliminary breath test and he gave an evidential sample of 48mcgs in breath – the legal limit in Northern Ireland is 35 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.
District Judge Anne Marshall imposed a total fine of £350, with 12 weeks to pay and disqualified the defendant from driving for 12 months.
