Armagh house raided as police crackdown on illegal drugs

Police have been actively gathering intelligence on drug dealers across the city

Police seized a number of drugs during a raid at a property in Armagh on Monday night.

Cops swooped on the house in the Culdee Street area of city around 8pm yesterday evening.

Eye-witnesses reported seeing “large numbers of police” at the scene while another said “police were everywhere”.

One man also told Armagh I that they “heard the door being rammed in and lots of police around”.

A PSNI spokesperson confirmed that there had been an incident in the area.

“Police carried out a search of a property in the Culdee Street area of Armagh yesterday evening,” said the spokesperson.

“A quantity of cannabis resin and suspect white powder were seized during this and enquiries are ongoing.”

There have been a number of searches at properties across the city in recent weeks.

Police are actively carrying out house raids as they look to clamp down on the illegal drugs trade.

PSNI officers have also been accompanied by specialist firearms teams.

The operation is in response to intelligence gathering as well as tip-offs from the community.

Earlier this month police were called to a report of a drug dealer operating outside a college in Armagh at 10am in the morning.

The alleged incident happened close to the bus station and Southern Regional College on Lonsdale Road in Armagh.

Elsewhere, this morning (Tuesday) police carried out two drugs searches at addresses in Dingwell Park, Lurgan.

As a result they arrested one man who has been reported to the Public Prosecution Service for Possessing a Class B Controlled Drug and another man is currently in custody to answer questions about Possessing Class A, Class B and Class C controlled drugs and being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs.
