Armagh fundraiser Willie Nugent in heartfelt thanks as Christmas book campaign draws to a close

Armagh fundraiser Willie Nugent has issued a heartfelt message of thanks as his latest charity book sale campaign draws to a close in the run-up to Christmas.

With just a handful of copies still available in local shops, Willie said he was overwhelmed by the level of support shown by the public and by businesses across the city who helped sell the book.

Among those thanked were Raffles, Macari’s, the Ulster Gazette shop, Curran’s Spar, Armagh I, Trimprint, Frances Hairdressers, Armagh Blooms, Dessie’s and Hawthornes.

“There are not enough words to express what your support means,” Willie said.

He explained that the final total raised will be confirmed early in the New Year, with all proceeds to be divided equally between three charities close to his heart: Friends of the Cancer Centre at Belfast City Hospital; Little Heroes at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children; and Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Reflecting on his long-standing commitment to fundraising, Willie added: “Often times in life it is extremely easy to forget about all the people that have supported you and pushed you to better yourself. It is easy to forget that you very rarely achieve anything in this world without the help of others.

“So to each and every single person that has supported me along the way during my fundraising journey I embarked on 50 years ago – thank you.”

Willie, along with Maisie and Daisy, wished everyone “a very Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year”.
