A County Armagh hardware company has paid tribute to the long service and “endearing” personality of a former employee who passed away at the weekend.
Robin Moffett, who passed away on Saturday evening, was a popular character in Killeen Hardware, Armagh, where he served at the main trade counter for over 25 years, having started with the company in 1993.
In a Facebook post by Killeen Hardware, they said they were “deeply saddened” to hear the news of 81-year-old Robin’s passing.
They continued: “Robin was a real character and very popular amongst staff, suppliers and customers. He drove a hard bargain but at the same time was very fair in all his business dealings.
“He joined the company in 1993 and served at our main trade counter for over 25 years where he had a wealth of experience in the building and hardware trade.
“Robin would leave no stone unturned to get each customer exactly what they needed; he was an honest, friendly hardworking man with an endearing personality.”
They added: “He will be greatly missed and his loss will be felt amongst all who knew him well. We extend our prayers and our deepest and heartfelt sympathies to his family and friends at this sad time. 2 Corinthians 5:8.”
The UUP’s Alderman Jim Speers was one of many who took to social media to express their sympathies.
He said: “One of life’s true gentlemen. I extend my deepest sympathy to his brother Harry and the wider family circle.
“I have known Robin for over 50 years. A very decent, hardworking and well respected honest man.”
Another added: “So sorry to hear this very sad news. Robin always was very helpful and would have gone out of his way to help.”
Robin’s funeral will take place in Redrock Presbyterian Church tomorrow (Tuesday) at 2pm, followed by interment in the adjoining graveyard.
