Armagh assault victim suffers seizure and spends night in hospital as police issue appeal

One of the two brothers beaten by a gang of up to 20 others in Armagh city centre on Friday night suffered a seizure and was rushed to hospital shortly after returning home from his ordeal.

John McQuaid, who has Asperger Syndrome, and his brother Sean were attacked by the gang shortly after leaving the cinema at around 8pm.

When they got home, John, who complained of a pain in his head dropped on the floor and suffered a seizure. He was rushed to hospital where he spent the night. It is understood he was allowed to return home this morning (Saturday).

Meanwhile, police are today appealing for information following the assault.

Sergeant McGuffin said: “At approximately 8pm we received a report that two men had been assaulted by a group of around 20 men following an altercation in the Scotch Street area.

“The victims sustained cuts and bruises during the attack.

“I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the assault or who may have CCTV or other footage that could assist with enquiries, to contact police on 101 quoting reference 1858 of 19/05/23.”
