An online appeal to help an Armagh family whose home suffered “significant” damage in an arson attack has so far raised over £2,000 – and counting!
The property sustained damage after a car was set alight at Drumarg Park.
It happened during the early hours of Wednesday morning and police – who are treating the incident as arson – are investigating.
While police say there were no reports of injuries – and Fire Service attended to extinguish the burning vehicle – damage was caused to a neighbouring property in the estate.
The incident shocked the local community who have been rallying around to help the family whose home was damaged.
A GoFundMe page – set up by Deirdre McClelland – has already attracted over 60 donations, with the total raised, at the time of writing, now standing at £2,265.
The organiser, in her GoFundMe appeal, said the family have “lived in Drumarg their entire lives” and were “now facing a heartbreaking situation”.
She said: “The attack happened outside their home and was absolutely nothing to do with this family. They were innocent victims of a senseless act that has left their property badly damaged.
“This has been an ongoing occurrence and unfortunately this time there is significant destructive damage that has been caused.
“The fire destroyed the front door and windows of their home, while smoke damage has affected the front rooms inside the house.
“The family are now faced with significant repair costs and the distress of trying to restore their home after such a traumatic incident.
“Unfortunately the house isn’t covered by insurance which leaves this family under extreme pressure.”
Calling for local people to show their support, Ms McClelland added: “We’re hoping the community can come together to help them through this incredibly difficult time.
“Every donation, no matter how small, will go towards replacing the damaged windows and front door, repairing the smoke damage, and helping make their home safe and secure again.
“If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser to help us reach as many people as possible.
“Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support. Together, we can help this family rebuild their home and move forward from a situation that was completely beyond their control. Every share and donation is greatly appreciated.”
