£3m sewerage work underway on the Mall West in Armagh

Work is currently underway on a £3 million programme of work to improve the sewerage network in Armagh.

NI Water would like to remind the public that construction work is currently progressing along Mall West with a lane closure and temporary traffic lights in operation.

Subsequent to this, there are two crossings to be carried out around Mall West Shopping Centre. The first will cross the main car park entrance to the Shopping Centre, where access will be maintained during these works, but will be reduced to one lane in and out of the Shopping Centre.

This work will commence on Wednesday 27 January and will take approximately two weeks to complete.

The second crossing will follow, and will be across the Mall Shopping Centre Service Yard entrance. Restricted access will be maintained during this work and it is anticipated that this will take approximately one week to complete.

NI Water would like to highlight that the Mall West car park will remain open as works cross the entrance.

Detailed traffic management plans have been discussed and agreed with Transport NI to try to minimise the impact of these works in the main arterial route through Armagh, and NI Water will continue to liaise closely with Transport NI and City Centre and Mall West Managers to minimise disruption throughout this contract.

NI Water and their contractor, BSG Civil Engineering Ltd, would like to thank the public and local businesses for their continued patience and cooperation as they complete these essential works.

They are assuring the public that they will do everything we can to complete the work as quickly as practicably possible.

When complete, the scheme will meet Northern Ireland Environment Agency standards, reducing the risk of ‘out of sewer’ flooding and will facilitate future development within Armagh city for the next 30 years by improving and increasing the capacity of the sewerage infrastructure.

Customer queries should be directed to Waterline on 03457 440088.
