Aghalee man convicted of benefit fraud

He was given a three month prison sentence

A man was convicted at Craigavon Crown Court yesterday for claiming benefits he was not entitled to.

Joseph McAlinden (51) of Bartins Bay Road, Aghalee claimed Income Support, Jobseeker’s Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £11,010 while failing to declare employment.

He was given a three month prison sentence suspended for two years.

He is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Department for Communities.
