Acknowledgement for the late Owen McAfee (Armagh)

Owen McAfee from Armagh

McAfee, Owen.

Owen’s parents Glenda and Jimmy, brother Jack, sister Olivia, Grandparents Sean and Eileen Powell and entire family circle, would like to thank all those who sympathised with us on the heart-breaking loss of our beloved Owen.

We will forever be indebted to all those who attended his wake, funeral, sent Mass/sympathy cards, sent online messages, brought gifts, food, floral tributes and helped us in so many ways.

We wish to thank all those who made a donation during the wake, in lieu of flowers to the Boom Foundation, as a way of thanks for their support to Owen; and to everyone who organised or attended events and donated in any way to the Onward for Owen campaign.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Fr Barry Matthews for the special pastoral care he gave to Owen and our family, and for celebrating a very personal and fitting Requiem Mass. We send our appreciation and thanks to Eilis Fox and Sara-Jane Kelly for providing the beautiful music which enhanced the spirituality of the Mass.

Special thanks to everyone in our Parish and beyond who kept Owen in their prayers during his illness, and this includes Archbishop Eamon Martin for his personal message of comfort to our family. The support of these prayers continues to be a great comfort to us all.

We wish to extend our sincere gratitude to the committee and members of Armagh Harps GFC, for all their support during Owen’s illness, and for providing a beautiful guard of honour from our home and at the Cathedral on the day of the funeral.

We are humbled by the thoughtfulness of Armagh GAA for remembering Owen before their game in Croke Park on the day of his passing.

We wish to acknowledge and send our thanks to the Armagh Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes committee for enabling Owen to visit Lourdes last year.

We send our heartfelt thanks to Lucy Forde and all the team at Cancer Fund for Children and Daisy Lodge for all their kindness and support.

Our thanks and appreciation are sent to everyone who cared for Owen during his illness. The staff at the Friary Surgery, McKeevers Chemist, Community Palliative Care team, Innovita Life and Renee Reid and all the staff at the Cancer Centre for N.I.

Our family will be forever grateful to Brenda McIlroy (Macmillan CNS), Dr Claire Butler and all the staff on the Respiratory CC ward in the Royal Victoria Hospital, for the exemplary levels of care and kindness shown to Owen and our family during his final weeks.

We would like to offer our sincere thanks to Hugo and all at JJ McArdle & Sons for the professional, caring, and dignified manner, in which Owen’s funeral arrangements were carried out.

We send a very special message of thanks to all of Owen’s close friends for the joy you brought to him throughout his life. Thank you for the dignified guard of honour you provided for Owen, and for all your help and support during his wake and funeral. May your happy memories carry you through these difficult days ahead.

As it is impossible to thank everyone personally, please accept this acknowledgement as a reflection of our profound gratitude.

‘If memories bring us closer,
We won’t be far apart,
You are always in our thoughts,
And forever in our hearts.’

“Our Lady of Lourdes, Pray for him.”

Owen’s Months mind Mass will be celebrated on Friday May 3, 2024 at 7:30pm in St Malachys Church, Armagh.
