A driver who was almost six times the drink-drive limit was arrested as he attempted to take his car onto the motorway in the early hours of this morning.
The man was stopped on the Northway on Portadown just before approaching the M12.
He was taken from his vehicle and asked to provide a breath sample, which came in at a staggering 204 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.
That is almost six time the legal limit, which is currently set at 35.
The man was arrested and taken into custody where he supplied another sample.
Police crews in Banbridge recorded an earlier drink driver at 202 before the 204 set the unenviable record for the night.
PSNI took to social media, saying: “What’s with all the people that think it’s okay to drink and drive? What a terrible thing to be able to compare!”
Sandwiched between Easter weekend and the forthcoming May Bank Holiday at the end of the month, police again are asking motorists to be smart.
Police made 61 arrests for driving whilst under the influence of drink or drugs over the Easter period (Good Friday to Easter Monday) last year.
