Pets rescued from Armagh house fire after neighbour flags down police

NI Fire and Rescue

Three pets home alone were rescued from a house fire in Armagh on Saturday afternoon.

Police, on patrol in the area, were flagged down by neighbours and alerted to smoke billowing from a house in the Mullacreevie Park area shortly before 2.30pm.

A fire crew from the nearby Armagh station was despatched to the scene.

A police spokesperson said: “Over the weekend, officers from Armagh Local Policing Response Team were out on patrol around the city when they were flagged down by vigilant neighbours who had spotted smoke coming from a property.

“Together with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service, they were able to gain entry to the property and confirm no people were inside. Three family pets were rescued from the house and were thankfully safe and well.”

A spokesperson added: “The fire, which did not cause damage, is not being treated as suspicious.”

A NI Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson told Armagh I: “Firefighters were called to reports of a smoke alarm sounding which had alerted a neighbour.

“Firefighters forced entry to the property and extinguished the fire. The incident was dealt with by 3pm and the cause of the fire is believed to be accidental ignition.”
