Detectives are appealing for information after a report of a robbery at a shop in Mullaghbawn on Tuesday evening.

Shortly after 6.30pm, it was reported that a man entered the Today Shop on the Forkhill Road, armed with a knife and forced a female staff member to open the tills before he made off with a sum of cash.

It is believed that the suspect made off on foot in the direction of Glebe Park.

Detective Inspector Handley said: “The male is described as wearing a dark blue McKenzie top with a grey hood, grey tracksuit bottoms, white shoes with three blue stripes and white latex gloves. His face was covered with a full black face mask.

“Thankfully no-one was physically injured as a result of this incident but the member of staff was understandably left very shaken.”

Slieve Gullion Sinn Féin Councillor Mickey Larkin has called for anyone with information relating to the robbery at the Today Shop in Mullaghbawn yesterday evening to contact the PSNI.

“At around 7pm on Tuesday evening a man entered the Today Shop and rifled the till. When discovered by a member of staff he produced a large knife and left the premises with a sum of cash. It is believed he escaped in a car parked outside the shop.

“This was a terrifying incident for the member of staff present in the Shop. Local shops and their staff have provided a service to residents throughout the pandemic and during the most difficult of times. No business or worker should be subjected to threats or robbery.

“I have spoken to the police who are following a number of lines of inquiry. If anyone has any information about this incident I would ask them to bring it forward to the police.”
