Co Armagh boxer hoping to land first senior Irish title in Dublin final

A young Co Armagh boxer is hoping to land a first Irish senior title tonight (Saturday) at the National stadium in Dublin.

Eugene McKeever, from Mullaghbawn, boxing out of the Holy Family club in Drogheda, will face Galway’s Kieran Molloy in the 69kg final.

This televised event, shown on RTE 2 from 7pm, will be the pinnacle of the 20-year-old’s career to date.

His young career seen him develop as a fabulous young boxer through the guidance Marty Mulholland and Tommy Sheilds in St Malachy’s Boxing Club, Camlough.

During his time at the club, he achieved a number of Ulster and All-Ireland successes.

Eugene is now under the stewardship of top trainer Damian McKenna in Drogheda and has already won the Irish Senior Championship while with the Holy family club.

Reaching the elite final at the first time of entering is an amazing achievement for Eugene and is a major step towards the hope of representing Ireland at next Olympics in Tokyo.

All in Eugene’s old club of St Malachy’s, Camlough and his new club Holy Family, Drogheda wish him the best of good luck in his up coming final.

Results to date:

Pre-lims: Eugene McKeever (Holy Family D) beat Michael Hennessy (St Monicas) 5-0
Semi-finals: Eugene McKeever (Holy Family D) beat Tony McGlynn (Crumlin) 5-0
