Weather warnings for severe gales and prolonged rains in countdown to 2016

Motorists are being advised to exercise extreme caution on the roads due to flooding in many areas.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for rain and gale force winds in the coming days.flood

This morning’s Bob Radcliffe Cup final between Armagh City and Loughgall FC has been a casualty of the atrocious conditions, with Lakeview Park unplayable due to a waterlogged pitch.

The FA are to hold an emergency meeting to reschedule the tie.

After persistent heavy rains throughout Christmas Day, forecasters are warning of more to come.

Temperatures tonight are forecast to fall below freezing and there will be the potential for ice and frost on roads, as well as foggy conditions.

And next week is showing no sign of a let-up.

A weather warning for gale force to severe gale force winds is in place throughout Tuesday, from 9am until 11.45pm, with the potential for structural damage.

And this will be followed on Wednesday with a warning for very heavy and prolonged rains and the potential for further flooding.

Many parts of the county are already feeling the effects of Storm Eva and there is plentiful surface water.

The PSNI is urging motorists to drive appropriate to the conditions.
