Police hunt pair after Sunday evening burglary at pensioner’s house

Intruders moved from room to room searching for valuables

Two men searched the home of an old aged pensioner after breaking into her home on Sunday afternoon.

Police in Newry are appealing for information on the incident, which happened at around 5pm at Church Road in Forkhill.

Detective Constable Skillen said the culprits, once inside, spoke to the woman whilst moving through several rooms looking through drawers and cupboards.

He added: “They stayed in the house for around five minutes before leaving via the front door.

“Nothing is believed to have been taken at this time and the woman was not injured by the men.

“Both men were described as being aged in their 20s and around 5’10” tall.”

Police have appealed for information.

DC Skillen said: “An investigation into this incident is ongoing and I would appeal to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in or around the area of Church Road on Sunday to contact detectives in Ardmore on 101 quoting reference number 912 26/03/17.

“Information can also be given anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
