Parents’ concern over children’s safety outside two Markethill schools

Markethill Primary School

Parents are growing increasingly concerned over the safety of pupils at two Markethill schools.

There is a desire for increased traffic control measures on the Mowhan Road located between both the primary and secondary school.

Danny Kennedy MLA has made representations to Transport NI in relation to the issue.

“I have received representations from local parents who have expressed genuine concerns about potential traffic safety issues affecting the section of Mowhan Road between Markethill Primary School and Markethill High School,” said Mr Kennedy.

“There is a strong desire for additional measures to be introduced to ensure that pupils of both schools are offered maximum protection from oncoming traffic when they are being dropped off and returning home from school.

“I have contacted senior officials within Transport NI requesting that they give serious consideration to implementing appropriate measures within the vicinity of both schools with a view to ensuring that the safety and well-being of pupils and parents is assured.”
