Anti-social behaviour and allegations of criminality in Newtownhamilton

Meeting hears calls for 'targeted and meaningful investment'

Anti-social behaviour and allegations of criminality are having a lasting impact on the community in Newtownhamilton.

And more must be done to target investment in the area to meet the needs of a growing population.

The calls came from Sinn Féin Councillor Barra Ó Muiri after meeting the Newtownhamilton Commuity Association and the local Association for Bulgarian Culture and Education about issues which are causing great concern to residents.

Speaking afterwards, he urged local authorities and the PSNI to “take action on issues of criminality, anti-social behaviour and a lack of provision of public services and parking facilities in Newtownhamilton”.

“In my engagement with residents a number of concerns have been raised with me about ongoing issues in the town,” Councillor Ó Muirí said

“A severe lack of residential parking, lack of provision for services to meet the needs of a growing population, and fears of rising anti-social behaviour must be addressed in the immediate term.

“But an an ongoing lack of targeted and meaningful investment, and unresolved issues of anti-social behaviour and allegations of criminality, is having a lasting impact on the community.

“I have been active in meeting the Newtownhamilton Community Association and the local Association for Bulgarian Culture and Education.

“I have proposed that we jointly engage with the PSNI, Social Services and Environmental Health to address ongoing issues as a united community.”
