The A1 has been closed north-bound following a serious accident this afternoon (Thursday).
The accident which happened just before 3pm involved a car and a motorcycle.
Motorists are being advised that the A1 north-bound has been closed following what police describe as a “serious RTC”.
It happened close to the junction of the Old Dublin Road south of Newry.
Diversions are in place and motorists should avoid the area and seek alternative routes for their journey.
4.25pm UPDATE: The road has now been closed in both directions.
Tailbacks are stretching back four miles and drivers are being diverted onto the Dublin Road roundabout.
There are no further details at this stage.
