Major disruption ahead as Armagh sewer works to start up again on the Mall

Armagh can brace itself for further major disruption as it can be confirmed that work on a sewer-laying programme will be returning again to the Mall.

Construction work will restart at Mall East from next Monday, October 3.

And it is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete.

An NI Water spokesperson confirmed: “This is a continuation of the work previously undertaken on Mall East and will include a major connection to the existing sewerage network.

“Working hours will generally be Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm and Saturday 8am to 1pm, however it may be necessary for some work to be completed outside of these hours.”

NI Water said safety was a high priority and – in order for the works to be undertaken safely for both the public and the contract staff – it will be necessary to implement a one-way closure along Mall East for Goal Square bound traffic only.

This will start on October 3 for approximately two weeks.

The spokesperson added: “Traffic management arrangements will be in place and traffic approaching Mall East from the Courthouse will be diverted via Mall West.

“It will also be necessary to prohibit parking along a section of Mall East – at the Goal Square end – during this time; the parking areas affected will be coned off.

“Residential and business access may be restricted during the works.

“We will endeavor to reduce the impact where possible and continue to liaise with relevant businesses and residents as the works progress.

“NI Water will continue to liaise with all our major stakeholders throughout this programme of work to try to minimise disruption as far as possible.”
