Patients in the Children’s Ward of Craigavon Area Hospital were thrilled to be able to speak directly to Santa Claus thanks to a live video call from the North Pole!

During the call, Santa got to hear the children’s Christmas wishes before staff helped give out the presents on his behalf.

All the arrangements for this very special video call were made by the Southern Trust’s IT Team with the help of video communications technology company Cisco.

Neil Radford, Senior IT Communications and Security Officer for the Southern Trust said: “Santa is very busy over Christmas, but using video technology means that he can make sure young patients get a well-deserved visit from him.”

Sister Lyndsey Hughes, Children’s Ward Sister said: “The Christmas period can be an especially difficult time to be in hospital and today has brought along some festive cheer to the ward.

“I would like to thank our IT department for creating such a wonderful experience for the children and their parents. The team does a great job all year round in making sure all our systems are working 24/7 so clinicians can do their jobs effectively.”
