Early morning arson attack at block of flats in Co Armagh

Residents evacuated after alarm raised

A number of residents had to be evacuated after an arson attack on a block of flats in Co Armagh.

Detectives are appealing for information after the fire broke out at flats at the Moyraverty Centre area of Craigavon.

It happened during the early hours of yesterday (Saturday) morning.

Shortly before 6.30am police received a report that a flat was on fire.

There was no one in the flat where the fire started, but a number of residents within the block had to be evacuated.

There are no reports of any injuries.

Detective Inspector Harvey has appealed to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity around this area to contact detectives at Lurgan on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 288 13/01/18.

He added: “Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
