Suspended prison sentence for woman who falsely claimed £13,000 in benefits

A woman was convicted at Armagh Magistrates’ Court recently for claiming over £13,000 in benefits she was not entitled to.

Catherine Sheridan (31) of Ardowen, Craigavon claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £13,750 while failing to declare that she was living with a partner as husband and wife.

She was given a six month prison sentence suspended for eighteen months.

The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities.

She is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Department.

Suspected benefit fraud can be reported to the Department for Communities anonymously.
