Under 14 Football / Peil Faoi 14 – Corrinshego Under 14 Challenge Game: Corrinshego v Killeavey was 6 – 8 V 3 – 12.

The new look Corrinshego U14 team got their footballing season off to a winning start with a competitive challenge game against Killeavey. It was a bitterly cold afternoon that was soon warmed up through some scintillating play by Corrinshego. Wave after wave began through solid foundations at the back, as new U14 Captain Niall McShane took command at the back to feed his midfield time and again. With the defence looking solid it was new Vice Captain Adam Loughran who took control up front, putting a goal and a point on the scoreboard early, that was soon followed up by a well taken point from midfield through Ryan Gray. The opposition soon hit back though with a looping shot that found the back of the net and this was followed by another two points. although this was the height of Killeavey’s attacking prowess in the first half, as Adam Loughran and Ryan Gray ran amock in the Killeavey defence, with both hitting the back of the net and firing over the bar time and again. Even Captain Niall McShane got on the scoreboard with a finely taken point.  However the second half saw the proverbial game of two halves as Corrinshego made a few changes and quickly lost their shape and allowed Killeavey to rack up many unanswered scores. It was only Kyle Mooney who got himself onto the scoresheet for Corrinshego with two well taken goal strikes, before Oisin Mallon struck the inside of the posts with a stunning goal. Corrinshego won in the end but will have to perform consistently better in both halves in future if they are to have a successful league campaign this year.

Under 16 Football / Peil Faoi 16: Naomh Bríd 2-10 Tomás Dáibhis 1-10 07 Aibreán 2013

Thomas Davis Under 16’s had a good challenge game with Division 2 outfit St.Brigids, an amalgamation of Whitecross, Lissummon & OHanlons last Sunday morning at Lissummon. Both sides were very evenly matched throughout with St.Brigids hitting a well worked goal to leave them ahead 1-04 to 0-05 at half time.

The Thomas Davis lads had a strong second half playing some great attacking football and can feel slightly unlucky not to least get a draw from the game as we managed to hit the woodwork no fewer than 3 times and registered numerous wides.

All in all, it was great preparation for our first league game away to Ballymacnab on the 18 April. Thanks to our hosts for the challenge game and to referee Henry McCloy who had an excellent game

Crossmaglen Rangers

After a break of almost two months it is back to business again when we start our league campaign with an away game against lurgan side St. Pauls. I think a little bit of history on two fronts as it is the Lurgan boys first time playing in Div 1 and our first time playing against them at senior level. It is also an important day for the club as our new manager Joe Kernan takes charge for the second time. We wish Joe and the team well for the new season. Supporters are advised to allow time to find the grounds as they located in the Taghnevan estate on the outskirts’ of Lurgan.

Rangers 2nds continue their league campaign with a home fixture against Tullysarran. Throw in is timed for 2.00pm and if you are not travelling to Lurgan why not go along and support the boys.

Scor Sinsear Ulster Final

Hard luck to our Ceili Dancers, who made the long trip to Derry’s  St Cecilias College on Saturday afternoon for the final of scor sinsear. They were up against Omagh St Endas and neighbours Warrenpoint in this prestigious final. Despite the fact that Omagh came away with the honours, the club are still immensely proud of the girls and their efforts. Our team included:Philomena Carroll, Aislin Downey, Una Hollywood, Niamh Moan, Laura Morgan, Niamh Downey, Emma Quinn and Emma Black. Scor has had a couple of good years in Killeavy, with Armagh club of the year award last year, and hosting a county semi final this year, as well as defending set dancing and ceili dancing county titles. Well done to everyone involved in keeping Scor well represented in Killeavy!

Leagues Getting Underway

The cold weather is just clearing in time for the start of the leagues this week. Indeed, it was great to see the u6/u8/u10 players back out on a sunny Sunday morning. All the best to all our teams as the leagues get into full flow this week.

The hectic schedules for all our teams can be viewed at http://www.killeavygaa.com/?page_id=3294. There will be no shortage of games in the next few months!

Youth Academy Reopening

Killeavy’s newly renovated Youth Academy re-opens this Monday 8th April from 6.30 – 8.00pm. Features include a new teenage room, arts and crafts, cookery classes and fun activities.

The weekly cost of £2.50 (£6 per family) includes a drink and heathly snack. Thank you to all those who have donated toys and other items to the academy. The youth academy is entirely

staffed by volunteers and as usual, every offer of help is much appreciated. Contact Lisa McDonnell 078 5416 2123.

Goldmark Goes Global

Killeavy’s young people have recently signed up to the Millenium Volunteers Goldmark scheme which rewards voluntary activity within our club. To date, 34 young people have signed up and are engaged in a range of activities across the club including helping out with youth academy, assisting at underage coaching sessions, helping out with fundraising activities and assisting with registration. Each young person has a club mentor to support them and to ensure that their volunteering experience is positive.

Catherine McGuinness, recently took on a special volunteering project and gathered items to fill a shoebox which was delivered to young people in Bhutan. Bhutan is a small developing country in the Eastern Himalayas. Although Bhutan is deemed to have one of the happiest peoples in the world, it also has extreme levels of poverty, particularly in the remote regions of the country where housing is very basic and electricity and access to television and internet only arrived in recent years. The shoebox included books, dental kits, balls and even a Killeavy Kit so there is one very happy young boy running around in one of our outfits in the Himalayan mountain’s – Catherine has made a real positive difference through her efforts.

We encourage all of our young people to get involved in this scheme which will benefit you personally, benefit your club and like Catherine, maybe benefit people we don’t even know yet. To register for the scheme or if you have a volunteering opportunity for our young people, Contact our Goldmark Co-Ordinator Bernie McMahon on 07729314424.

MINOR 7’s Peter Keeley Cup/ Kevin Hearty Shield. On Saturday past we hosted our annual Sevens tournament . This year had a special significance, being the tenth anniversary of

Minor 7s Peter Keeley Cup winners Silverbridge pictured with managers Declan McVerry & Joe Crawley and Coaching Officer Michael McGeeney: C McKeown, C McKinley, P Reel,M McGeeney, J Rock, J McArdle, G Burns, J Meegan, P O’Neill. the passing of Peter Keeley. Teams from Monaghan Harps, Mullaghbawn, Saval, Kilcoo, Clonduff, Creggan Kickhams and two teams from the ‘bridge(S’bridge Blue & S’bridge Gold) took to Keeley Park in fine sunshine to determine the winners of the Cup and Shield competitions . After an entertaining day’s competition the finalists of the Shield were Monaghan Harps and Mullaghbawn, with the Monaghan lads edging out their opponents by the minimum.  The final of the Cup competition saw Silverbridge ‘blue’ take on Clonduff and after 15 minutes of absorbing football it was the home team who emerged victorious. Maybe Peter Keeley himself was keeping a special eye on us? As usual the wide variety of teams competing led to a hugely entertaining day’s football. The day could not have been such a huge success without the enthusiasm of the supporters, and the assistance of countless volunteers, club members and helpers who all pitched in with the stewarding, photography, supervision, parking and administration and field preparation (Mickie Mallie and James Daly). We are ever indebted to our hospitality ladies who provided first class refreshments for all and sundry throughout the day. Thanks, also, to the referees, umpires and linesmen for their contribution. A special word of thanks to our main sponsors COOLE FUELS and DONNELLY’S WHOLESALE for their support and to our Minor team sponsor Polar. Many, many thanks to everyone for ‘playing their part’ yet again and for supporting this very important competition in our club calendar.

Wolfe Tones

Peil/ Football
The senior footballers get the competitive season underway at 2pm on Sunday with a visit to Ballyhegan. Preparations continued for the league this week with a win over St Peter’s Lurgan. The first home match is the following Sunday against Mullaghbane. The senior footballers are encouraging Tones supporters to buy a season ticket for all 7 home league games for the special price of just £15. These can be ordered by contacting any committee member.
The minors open up their campaign away to St Peter’s on Monday 8 April and host Tír na nÓg on Monday 15 in Derrymacash with both games having a 6.45 throw-in. The Under 16s play Naomh Eoin in Annaghmore on Thursday evening at 6.45pm and the Under 14s will have to wait a week until Tuesday 16 April when they get up and running against Lurgan side, St Peter’s.
Well done to the Under 16s to beat sarsfields by a point on Saturday in Derrymacash. Maith sibh.
This weekend proved to be a good one for our Under 8 and Under 10 footballers. The Under 8s played Tír na nÓg on Saturday and over the four games, the Tones were winners in all. The Under 10s played Tír na nÓg on Sunday and were winners in both games also. Well done boys and girls.
Well done to the Armagh senior footballers who beat Gaillimh in great style to retain their Division 2 status for 2013. The result and indeed the performance should hopefully give the boys a good boost before the Cavan game in the Ulster Championship. Well done to Finnian who played his part for Armagh during the league campaign. Ard Mhacha abú.

Scéalaíocht/ Storytelling
Well done and thank you to Clanbrassil Cultural Group who organised a great night’s craic in the club on Saturday with three times Bard of Armagh, Patsy O’Hagan. Patsy kept the crowd entertained upstairs with plenty of laughs and a fantastic music session was provided afterwards by Eoin and Ray from the Armagh Rhymers, as well as a couple of more local acts and a soon-to-be adopted Tones man from Kilkenny. We would like to thank and congratulate Paul, Nora, Peter, Dónal and the Clanbrassil Group for hosting such a great night in the club. Maith sibh agus go raibh maith agaibh.

Caomógaíocht/ Camogie
St Endas Camogie Club will be holding a big breakfast on Sunday 21st April between 10am and 12 noon at the club. Come on down to the club rooms and let our camogs cook you breakfast and bring all the family with you. The cost is £4 per breakfast, with all proceeds in aid of camogie development. We hope you all received your flyers in the post over the weekend and we would like to thank all those who delivered them and designed and put up the posters at the club and in Ballinamoney.
The club will be holding a celebration of camogie in Derrymacash for all players, mentors and supporters of St Enda’s Camogie Club, past and present on Saturday 25 May from 7pm. There will be an exhibition of photographs and memorabilia on the night and we are asking anyone with photos or memorabilia which we could borrow for the night to get in touch with us. A good night’s craic is guaranteed with Good Intentions providing music in the bar until late. Make sure you don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate the history of our camogie club, as we look forward to the future development of camogie in Derrymacash and north Armagh. Naomh Éanna abú.

Caitheamh aimsire úr/ New hobby
Clanbrassil Cultural Development Group are exploring the idea of running a patchwork / quilting course which will involve bringing people down to Belfast for a full day’s tuition (in the Autumn) – during which you make and complete a patchwork cushion. It gives a really good grounding on patchwork / quilting techniques. There are a few places for those who do not own or are unable to borrow a machine to bring with them. There are also a few spaces for those with no experience at all on a sewing machine. If you think you would be interested in taking up this as a new hobby, please send Norah McCorry an email at blue_thimble@hotmail.co.uk or message her via her facebook site at www.facebook.com/bluethimblecrafts or text her on 07742 674 929. Altenatively give your name to Paul Carville.
